John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV)
It’s not easy to select a gift. One must be intentional and thoughtful to give something beneficial and pleasing to the recipient. God gave for a specific purpose, a gift for all mankind! What can you give in return?
The account of the wise men’s visit to the young child is recorded in Matthew chapter 2 of the Bible. Among the gifts, they brought for the child was myrrh. Research has revealed that myrrh, an anointing oil, was used when embalming the dead. Can you imagine receiving a gift like that for your child? But Mary, always a thinker, understood purpose and the need to be obedient in accepting the things of God. Would Mary have to use the myrrh on Jesus one day? YES! It’s truly wonderful to see how God continues to be the reliable source for every needed resource. It is very evident that God is a strategic and thorough planner. Isn’t it amazing that we can’t divorce Jesus’ birth from His death? Jesus is our Saviour, our Redeemer, the one who died for our sins. How can we ever forget John 3:16?
What is the best gift that we can give to Jesus? Romans 12:1 says: And so dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. (NLT)
The best gift you can give is your whole life. Surrender all to Jesus.
